Fourth of July Parade

Fourth of July Parade

Altoona’s Fourth of July Parade

Celebrate the Fourth of July in Altoona! On July 4th, the Altoona Area Historical Society is hosting a HUGE parade right down 8th Street! This is an awesome opportunity for you to showcase your band, your business, your float, or your creativity!

The Altoona Fourth of July parade will travel straight east on 8th Street. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. in front of the Altoona Public Library and end at Haines Park. Following the parade, an ice cream social will be held at Haines Park. Spectators are encouraged to spend the day in Altoona, visiting the Altoona Area Historical Museum, Adventureland Park, Prairie Meadows, the Outlets of Des Moines, and our many businesses. The parade is expected to last between one to two hours.

Parade Rules: The parade will be approximately 1.5 miles long. No water balloons or water guns. No bicycles, tricycles, scooters or children’s motorized vehicles.

FOR SAFETY REASONS: If you wish to toss candy, you will need to provide walkers alongside your float. No candy is to be thrown from your unit/vehicle/float/trailer etc.

Please make sure your float includes your organization/business name displayed. Include a detailed description of your entry to be read at the judging area.

We encourage floats to be more than just a vehicle with signs. The more creative the better! For inspiration, click here for float ideas from paradefloatsuppliesnow.com.
